William Hare was a master potter in Wilmington, Delaware from 1839 to 1885. This study of his shop provides insight into Delaware's pottery industry, 19th century changes in pottery products and the development of the modern city of Wilmington. This book documents 240 surviving Hare marked pieces and provides detailed information on designs, size ranges, closure types, decorations, firing procedures and other data on each of the known classes of Hare pottery. It also provides a rare look at the life of a successful artisan of 19th century Wilmington, employees of his pottery and the world they inhabited.
